Wheelchair Accessible Carp Fishing in France?
Your disabled and you want to go Carp fishing. I think we may have found just the place for you. read on......
The 2008 PDF brochure for fishing in Brittany can be downloaded here. All in French (sorry) but if you go to the bottom of the document the costs and types of permits available are explained really well.
PRAT.....
No, Not you... Prat is a small town/village about 10mins up the road from us.
Famous for the beautifull lake that WAS only 12" deep. This lake, built by monks hundreds of years ago was a huge disappointment to me when I first arrived here as it looked so promising but (being so shallow due to silt build up over 80% of the lake) was nearly impossible to fish.
During 2007, 630,000Euros was being spent giving this lake a complete makeover. Dredging was going on all summer 2007 and now the lake now varies between 2 and 5 feet deep in a well sculpted and fishing friendly way.
Low lying banks down one side have been raise by about a foot and disabled access (although not finished) is going to be great.
I've been fishing there twice a week for the last two months and there is a good head of Bream, (5lb+ so far) Tench, (7lb so far!!!) Roach, (up to 1lb!!!) and Carp.
The Carp are coming out slowly and no bigger than 6lb (yet) but now they have the room (read depth) to grow, I have great hopes for this lake.
Heather Lakes can be found 56km (36Miles) down the road from us and consists of two lakes of which one could be considered VERY accessible (for a fishing lake).
The main lake has three very good pegs with vehicle access directly up to two of them and an easy stroll/roll/push to the last. There are two more 'do-able' pegs on the main lake.
The pegs on the smaller lake can be visited by wheelchair and if you had friends fishing there then you you can get right up to within 2 mtrs of the water but not down to the edge.
None of the swims are more than 20 seconds 'sprint' from each other so fishing with friends means everybody can have a go and you won't need a minder sitting with you in case you get a run you can't handle....... and that is very possible out here!
The fish (taken from the website)
The lakes were first stocked in December 2002 with a selection of mirrors & commons to over 40lb with a few koi carp and small catfish to give some variety. Most of the fish that were introduced were 24lb+ and with over 30 30lb+ fish stocked, the average weight was set to be impressive. We have since added carp in both lakes so now, with the stocking of some beautiful fully scaled and linear mirrors, big commons and 30lb+ grass carp the fishing will prove to be exciting with the chance to catch the fish of your dreams. The lakes do hold a small head of silver fish, a few tench, some original grass carp plus whatever original resident carp were already in there... who knows.
The area is very quiet AND very beautiful, and if the owner (trev) is half as nice as he sounds on the phone then he's a diamond.
As an keen angler and photographer myself I am looking forward to having our first party of fishermen and I am more than happy to support you in you quest for a PB and even take the pictures to prove it.
That could mean that the wife and kids head for the beach while we fish OR how about a night session? If it gets too much, we'll split and return in the morning.
